Apologies for the late notice, but this is the third in a series of workshops meant to prepare CERTs who are interested in emergency communications (EmComm).

At the first two workshops, settings for a variety of radios were discussed and "index cards" were introduced to illustrate what you need to know in order to manually program your radio and communicate with others.  One sticking point was the concept of tone which was discussed at length.  A short quiz showed that most everyone understood the concepts of the first two classes and how to program in VFO mode a frequency given the information of frequency, offset and shift, and tone.

This session will focus on computer programming your radio with a list of channels or frequencies.  The software is called CHIRP, and it is readily available online at no cost and can program a variety of radios.  It is not without its limitations, and we will discuss those as well.

If you have not attended any of the earlier workshops, you can join us by registering for this one.  If you have attended at least one of the previous sessions, you have already been notified about the class and do not need to register for this one.  We have no plans for PowerPoint presentations, but bring your own radio(s), your index cards and something on which to take notes.  Once you register we will send information on how to get started with CHIRP and you should be ready to program your radios by computer.

Come practice your Search, Rescue, and Triage skills at Blakely Hall. The scenario is that after a large earthquake you and some other CERTs have been tasked with checking out the Blakely Hall building, look for people, and take care of any injuries.  We will run the exercise 2  times to provide lots of practice.  If you have any questions, please email ski.kacoroski@issaquahcert.org.
